XML Errors in Point of Sale



When you open QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop, at times we receive the following error message:

          There is an error in XML document (0, 0)
          Error: Process could not access file C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v(x)\SessionData.xml because it is being used by another process

Reasons:

The possible causes for this message:

          The SessionData.xml file is damaged.
          Damaged files in the Point of Sale Entitlement Client folder.



Resolution:

Following solutions are recommended for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all to resolve the issue. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Rename Session Data

a.         On your computer, go to the Search field, type Services.msc and press Enter.
b.         Right-click Intuit Entitlement Service vX and select Stop (X is the highest number version you see). Close the window.
c.         Display hidden files and folders.

Note: Ensure to select Show hidden files, folders and drives and click to clear Hide protected system operating files checkbox.

d.         Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\vX
e.         Rename SessionData.xml to OLDSessionData.xml.

Solution 2: Rename the Entitlement Client folder


Navigate to the location below that is appropriate to your QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop version and rename the Entitlement folder.



Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v(x.x)

NOTE: Make sure to rename the right folder for each version.


Solution 3: Repair QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop

To repair an existing QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop installation, make sure POS is not running and follow the steps for your Operating System.

Note: For Windows 8.1, 8 and 7, :

a.         Navigate to Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.
b.         Choose QuickBooks Point of Sale from the list of programs.
c.         Click Uninstall or change a program.
d.         In the QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop Installation window, click next and select the Repair radio button.


If repairing QuickBooks Point of Sale for Desktop does not work or resolve your issue, you will need to perform a clean install of POS.
