When doing a financial exchange in Point of Sale, one can come across the following error:

Error code 140305: You have reached the maximum allowed number of customers in your QuickBooks Financial Software


Reasons for error 140305 in QuickBooks:

There are three possible causes for this error message to appear in QuickBooks Point of Sale:

•    Maximum number of customers list entries reached in QuickBooks.
•    QuickBooks customer list may be damaged.
•    Company file may be damaged.



Resolution: QuickBooks Error Code 140305

One of the following solutions can be considered to resolve this:

1.    Remove unused customers in Point of Sale and QuickBooks.
2.    Upgrade QuickBooks to the Enterprise edition which will effectively double the number of customers the program can contain.
3.    If you discover that the customer list in QuickBooks has not reached its maximum, resort the list to correct possible damage:
a.    From the Customers menu, select Customer Center.
b.    Right-click the Name header and select Re-sort List.
c.    Click OK to confirm the sorting and then attempt the financial exchange again.
4.    Resolve basic data damage.

QuickBooks Point of Sale Hardware and Software Support

Windows firewall plays a vital role in the communication of QuickBooks Point of Sale company data between the server and client workstation. If the firewall blocks the access of connectivity, Point of Sale automatically configures the firewall for you. If it fails, manual configuration may be needed for third-party security, firewall ports, and files.

When security programs block QuickBooks Point of Sale ports, the following processes can be interrupted:

Electronic Funds Transfer - Intuit Merchant Service credit card processing.
Database Server Manager - (Server installation only) Ability to connect and write to company file
Intuit Entitlement Service - Product license and user validation.



QuickBooks Point of Sale (POS) Configure Computer Firewall Ports

Steps to allow access to the critical ports for QuickBooks POS software

Windows 10, 8.1, 8.0 and Windows 7

1.    Go to Control Panel.
Windows 8.1 and 8: Right-click the Windows button and select Control Panel.
Windows 7: Click Windows Start and select Control Panel.
2.    In the View by dropdown, select Small icons.
3.    Click the Windows Firewall.
4.    On the left side of the window, click Advanced Settings.
5.    On the left side of the window, click Outbound Rules.
6.    On the right side of the window, click New Rule.
7.    In the New Outbound Rule Wizard window, choose Port and click Next.
8.    Enter the necessary port numbers. (see Point of Sale Firewall ports table below)
Note: If a port is both TCP and UDP, you need to enter the port twice (once for TCP and once for UDP).
9.    Ensure to choose to Allow the Connection, click Next and name the new outbound rule.
10. When finished, click Inbound Rules on the left side of the window and follow the same process done with Outbound Rules.
11. Restart the computer and open Point of Sale.
